Inspired by our founding sisters more than 360 years ago, we continue to respond with loving service to the urgent needs of our neighbors. We have been dedicated to the exercise of “all of the spiritual and corporal works of mercy of which woman is capable and which will most benefit the dear neighbor.” In this founding spirit, we engage in works of compassion, healing, and reconciliation.
The Sisters of Divine Providence minister in both traditional and nontraditional fields. In addition to education and healthcare, they work as counselors and foster parents, in campus ministry, social work, and pastoral care. The Community is strongly committed to working with those who are poor, in particular, single women with children.
Girls Hope provides a well-balanced, nurturing home and quality education through college for academically capable girls. We serve children between the ages of 10-18 who are at risk due to poverty, neglect or harmful neighborhood conditions. Girls Hope of Pittsburgh provides services and employment in a nondiscriminatory manner without regard to an individual’s race, color, sex, age, religious creed, national origin, ancestry or disability.
